  • Q2:- Do you need to be good at drawing to become a designer?

    Ans.

    It will be good if you are good at drawings because drawings are the best way to communicate any idea. Drawings work as a communication medium for designers. But there is a myth that you cannot draw. Drawing is a skill which can be improved with practice to any level. If you have a good mentor who can tell you all the technicalities you can learn it easily. Drawings also helps you improves your visual sense and 3D understanding. For entrances like NID, NIFT, CEED, NATA & JEE Main Paper-2 you have to be little good at drawing skills just to communicate your ideas.

  • Q6:- Please guide me how can I prepare fashion designing after 12?

    Ans.

    It depends on the entrance exam you are applying for because different colleges have different exam patterns. But there are some basic formats for design entrances where you will be having general aptitude and design aptitude exam. For NIFT you will have General ability test(GAT) and Creative ability test(CAT). In general ability test you have Mathematics (Basic), English, Logical reasoning and General awareness. For GAT you have to practice alot to increase your speed of solving a question because you get 120 mins for 100 question. In CAT you will be having drawing questions where you have to practice basic shapes, human figure, product sketching, scenarios drawing and etc. A tip is to be good at CAT is at least draw 10-12 objects everyday and try illustration humans around you.
    If you want more guidance over it you can visit a counsellor from this field. Or you can even join an institute who prepares students for design entrances.

    The National Institute of Design (NID) is premiere design school located in Ahmedabad (main campus), Gandhinagar(PG campus), Bangalore (R&D), Vijaywada & Kurukshetra (4 years Graduate Diploma Programs in Design). NID Ahmedabad offers 4-year Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programs in faculties of Communication Design, Industrial Design and Textile, Apparel, Accessory and Lifestyle design. The Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Gandhinagar campuses also offers 2.5-year postgraduate Master of Design (M.Des) programs in 19 areas of specialisation.

  • Q11:-What is NID exam pattern & syllabus?

    NID entrance exam has two stages – DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. DAT Prelims evaluates candidates on abilities such as creativity, visualisation, general knowledge, analytical skills and comprehension skills. The DAT Prelims is out of 100 marks and has two parts- MCQs (70 marks) and subjective questions (30 marks). Based on the Prelims marks, a merit list for the Mains will be prepared which is almost 4-5 times of the total no. of seats.
    DAT Mains divided further into studio test and interview round (for B.des there is no interviews). In the studio test you can have multiple exercises – drawing, sketching, model making, group discussions & sense test etc. The marks allotted are 100 and the duration is 3 hours.

    NID is an exam that requires observational and imaginative skills. Try observing daily objects and things around you by sketching them. Sketching practice for the drawing will help you improve your speed. Solving last year papers and mock tests will give you an idea about the exam. You have to be updated with the current affairs.

    For B.Des/GDPD, the age limit for candidates (general category and overseas) is up to 20 years of age (before 30th June 2018) are eligible to apply. For Indian National in Reserved Category, the age limit is 23 years, for PWD category the age limit is 25 years. Educational Qualification: Applications are open to applicants who have appeared/will appear/passed from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent.
    For M.Des, the age limit for candidates (general category and overseas) is up to 30 years of age (before 30th June 2018). For Indian National in Reserved Category, the age limit is 33 years, for PWD category the age limit is 35 years. Educational Qualifications: Applications are open to applicants who have appeared/will appear/passed degree examinations – Bachelor degree minimum 4 year specialisation OR Bachelor degree minimum 3 year specialisation OR Full time diploma of 4 year duration in design/applied arts/fine arts/architecture.

    For design entrances like NID, UCEED & NIFT, You just need to pass your class 12th in any stream. But in architecture entrance exams like NATA & JEE Mains-2, you should have the Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry as your subjects in 12th. And different colleges have different criteria for percentage.
